Quality Care

What to Expect

The first thing to do when you arrive at our 24-hour emergency service department at Encino Hospital Medical Center is complete registration. If the patient cannot register himself or herself, an accompanying party may be asked to help provide information. After registration, a registered triage nurse will provide an initial evaluation of the patient and decide the urgency of the situation.

A triage assessment will include:

  • Review of the patient’s complaint or description of pain.
  • Measurement of vital signs.
  • Discussion of medication taken, necessary or otherwise.
  • Analysis of patient’s medical history.

We use this triage assessment system to provide emergency medical treatment to patients who need it the most while also ensuring that all wait times are as brief as possible. The proper care of all our patients is our number one priority.

What to Bring

  • Photo ID, such as a driver’s license
  • Important health insurance information
  • Comprehensive list of all medications currently taken and dosage levels
  • Any information regarding medication allergies, such as an allergy to penicillin
  • Relevant test results regarding current or similar symptoms and conditions
  • Information about how to contact primary medical and care providers

We also recommend that patients prepare a list of questions to ask our physicians before arriving at the 24-hour emergency care department. While this is not absolutely necessary, you may find it quite helpful.

After Evaluation

When your emergency medical evaluation is complete, you can be:

  • Discharged and permitted to return home or go elsewhere
  • Admitted into the hospital for further treatment or evaluations

Patients who are discharged will be given an instructional statement on how to care for themselves after our treatments are completed. Make certain you read and fully understand the instructions before actually leaving the facility in case you have further questions or concerns to present to a staff member.

Patients who are admitted into Encino Hospital Medical Center will be treated with care and respect during their hospitalization, as they have received during our emergency medical treatments. You may be asked if there are any individuals, such as family members or close friends, who you would like to reach in order to inform them of your stay in our facility.
